About the Trip…

Dear Wonderful Friend and Partner,

One of the things that attracts us to international student ministry that is our life’s work is the strategic nature of it.We have the opportunity to impact people around the world by sharing Jesus’ love with them and sharing the transformational story of what He has done and can do for them. We also get to equip these future leaders for future work for His kingdom. We feel no greater joy than when we hear from a former student that they are not only thriving in their country but walking with God and serving Him in some way. It is especially fun when we get the opportunity to go and visit the students back home to see what God is doing in and through their lives and encourage them in their daily walk and service with the Lord.

This summer, our whole family (Roy, Lisa, Jonathan, T-10 and C-8) have the opportunity to do this through our mission trip to Asia. Our mission organization, International Students Inc.(ISI), has asked us to be a part of ISI’s national family conference in H0ng K0ng this summer. We feel that God wants us to also use this opportunity to visit former students and do other cross-cultural work in Ch1n&, Japan and H0ng K0ng. We leave Dallas on June 8 and return July 8 and some of the things we hope to accomplish are outlined below.

  • Riding all over Ch1n& by train, we will visit former students in Sh&nghai, Ti&njin, Be1jing, and H0ng K0ng. Among this group of students, are several recent believers that we are currently working with in Texas whom God has used our ministry. We have had the pleasure of helping them to develop skills and a heartfelt desire to start Christ community small groups among their friends. These could potentially morph into church plants back home. It’s been fun discipling and training this group during the year with the spiritual and ministry tools and vision to return early in the summer to implement a strategy to exponentially reach their own people in their own country. The opportunity we’ve been given to help them get started the first few months at home is such a blessing.
  • In Ch1n&, we will visit the many friends we have made over the years at UTA. A fringe benefit of this part of our ministry is our kids will be able to see the end product of what we do. They will better understand why we live the way we live.
  • While in Ch1&na, we hope to assist the H&rmony House 0rphanage (http://www.harmonyoutreach.org/)as servants to help the kids there. We have been told that one of the best ways we could serve the kids is to take them on a trip to enjoy the fun of McDonalds. So we plan to take some of these special needs orphans(25) to this fun place we all remember and take for granted from our childhood. But for them this is a huge treat! It is our hope that in addition we can help out in other ways while there. God has given us a heart for orphans over the years and we hope our kids and some of the students who might be with us during this part of the trip will be able to gain this passion as well through this experience.
  • Also  in Ch1n&, we will take two days to visit the city where we first met our adopted daughter C-8 in 2004 and also her home town.  These places remain a big part of her heart and we hope to encourage her in loving her people and her land.
  • After Ch1n&, we move on to H0ng K0ng where we will visit friends including a former college international student roommate, a former ISI colleague and some students. We will also be a part of the ISI national staff conference (a family conference) which is going to be held there.
  • From H0ng K0ng, we will travel to Japan, the land of Roy’s forefathers. We will visit relatives for a few days to share Jesus’ love with them in Fukushima where they live.  We will also spend three days in the Tokyo/Yokohama area with several former students and friends. Notably, one student we hope to see was the very first student spent time with in Arlington. Also, one of the couples we hope to visit was a significant part of our ministry in Arlington. The husband came to know Jesus while here as a Japanese international student, and the wife was a key American student ministry partner. They specifically decided to go back to his home country for the purpose of making a difference for Jesus. We hope to be an encouragement and joy to them. Also, this will also be Tim’s first chance to visit the land of his heritage, and we hope to show him and the other kids the lostness of that great country. Further, with the recent disasters that have struck the area, specifically where Roy’s relatives live, the purpose and urgency of this part of the trip has changed significantly. We will make ourselves available for whatever the need is.
  • From Japan, we fly back home through Sh&ngh&i, arriving in Dallas on July 8, exactly a month after we leave.

In summary, in one month the five of us will have traveled approximately 19,155 miles by air, 3,200 miles by train while visiting eight cities and three countries where we will minister to many student friends orphans, and relatives.

Of course, a trip like this will require a large financial commitment, especially with all five of us going. We would like to ask you to join us in partnership financially to make this trip possible. Imagine the opportunity to encourage seekers, help start churches, improve ministry skills and help orphans all on one trip, not to mention the impact on our own children. What a great investment that would be!

Our estimate is that it will take between $16,400 and $18,000  to make this trip. This includes transportation, conference, food, and housing costs. We personally plan to invest around $11,500 of our own funds , but we need you to help us get the rest of the way. You can respond by mail through sending a check written out to “International Students Inc.” and referencing “account 5734” or “Yabuki Asia trip,”  to “International Students Inc, Box C, Colorado Springs, CO 80901 or you can give online through our website at http://bit.ly/give2yabukis. We will try to keep you up to date on what is going on throughout the trip. Won’t you consider being a part of our team? Thanks so very much.

Sincerely,

Roy & Lisa Yabuki
