The Stephenville trip was great! After the students had a great time riding, fishing and shooting and a great night of camping we went to church. One of UTA’s students gave their testimony which touched at least one of the other student’s heart. After church I had a couple of great conversations about God and some of the implications of following Jesus. Trips like make what we do very fun and remind me that we (you included as prayer partners) are making a difference.
The Stephenville trip was a huge success. Nearly 100 people were treated to camping, riding, shooting and fishing. Your prayers mattered. It was amazing because while we heard thunder all around when we checked our our phones and the radar on weather apps, we saw the the rain was north of us, south of us, east of us and west of us but just not where we were. Wow! Your prayers parted the weather patterns! We had some great connections with students as you prayed for. I’ve never seen so many people sharing phone numbers and e-mails/facebook as in this group. (See pictures) There were a few challenges including a trip to the emergency room (which turned out to be relatively minor), the bailing out of the drill team that was supposed to perform for us, incredible heat, etc. But all in all it was a great time. Thanks all so much for praying!
Two of the girls from UTA and one guy from Collin shared their testimony at the meeting of people who do international student ministry in the DFW area. Wow. It was really fun. One interesting thing was that the one student who was the newest believer was sharing through the eyes of someone just discipled through our T4T training. You could see it all over her story. That was encouraging. Also, one non-believing student came and afterwards was asking a lot of questions.

You should see the e-mails we got from people who participated with the Big Howdy and other welcome events. It is always a blessing to hear such things and God has been very, very good. I really believe that God is moving so quickly of late in our area because of your prayers.
The student that Roy shared with at TCU and that our ICF president, Tim spoke with is moving towards joining the weekly discovery Bible study at TCU. Praise the Lord! Also, a student that key TCU volunteer Sarah has build a friendship with over the years from the red Asian giant has chosen to follow Jesus. Praise the Lord for Sarah’s perseverance but more God working in her friend’s life.
- A student at TCU is looking to work with Roy to start a temporary T4T Discipleship/Training group together where students could get some Church planting DNA for going home. Pray for other students to join the group. If they believe, train them.
Pray hard for the camping trip to Stephenville this weekend Sept 11-12 (see http://isidfw.com for link including video) with Grace Fellowship Church. Pray hard for good weather and NO RAIN. Pray for good connections between non-believing and believing students. Pray that we can identify people of peace(PoP) that God is already working in to focus our time there and in the future on. Pray for safety for everyone. Pray for dry tents, enough sleeping bags, good attitudes, etc.

The students now feel welcome. At least from what we’ve heard from them. Just finished up most of the welcome activites at the various campuses in the metroplex. These are often crazy times but the fruit is still to come. We will see how God was able to use these important events to kick start the ministry for the year.
The Big Howdy (www.utabighowdy.com – Pictures - ) party went very well. Ron and the team did a terrific job of planning the whole month. There were over 560 students present and well over 100 volunteers. One special thing that we did this year was Ron kicked the time off with a 20 minute training of all volunteers, from food servers to garbage movers to greeters in how to build relationships with students and being on the lookout for people of peace within the group. There was a noticeable difference in how much and how well students and volunteers were connecting. One more event left, tours around Arlington on Labor Day.
The TCU welcome party was one of the best yet. There were nearly 50 people there. The team did a terrific job of connecting with both old and new students. The greatest joy for me was watching the team gel and work together. It is a really tight group and it is a testimony to the students. Also Roy had a great discussion with a student about the impotence of politics and government to inherently change the world at the root level but that heart change affected by Jesus is the only way that true change can happen.
Ron shared with me that of a cool happening with the Training for Trainers (T4T) discipleship group. On Thursday, the group was sharing things they were thankful for and stressed out about. One couple from Taiwan desperately needed a car as they planned on transferring to a school 30 minutes away. One of the newly believing Chinese girls prayed for them. The following Monday, they reported that God provided right car at the right price. All was amazed at how quickly God answers prayers.
