(see video below) The Tejas 2008 Spring Break retreat was wonderful. In many ways it was our best yet. With attendance around 120, the students were treated to great hospitality, lots of fun activities, thought-provoking drama presentations, an engaging speaker who clearly presented the gospel, and small groups to process the message and build a sense of community.
We were excited that 12 students indicated they trusted Christ at the retreat, 30 indicated they wanted to learn more about Jesus, and 24 wanted to join a Bible study. Praise God for what He did during that weekend, and thank you to everyone who prayed for the Spirit to be present. He obviously was!
Here is what one student had to say: “I also enjoyed the music during the service, which is inspired and joyful. During the group discussion, we had explored what is about Christian and Jesus and also got many different views about religion and different interpretation about god. Although I am not a Christian, this is very helpful to let me understand about different religion and what the Christian see about relationship with god.â€Pray for this student to continue pursuing God in his life.
One of the cool things about the upcoming YabukiBreezeTV is that when something special happens, we can immediately share it with you all through video using our phone or digital camera. Here is a video from a Friday night group in March 2008 taken on my digial camera…
We have added a new way of staying in touch with you all. We have started a internet TV station… not really… Actually using a company called KyteTV we are able to send video shows, clips, pictures, etc. directly from our camera, computer, camera phone, etc. to the kyte tv site so you can see it almost immediately as it happens. That way, if we see something cool that happens or want to interview a student as something happens, etc. we can share it with you immediately and you can rejoice and/or pray with us.
The cool thing is you can subscribe to this using RSS or other means so that when a new video comes out, you can check it out on your computer… There is even a player that allows you to see it and share it with your friends on your phone (for all you tech gadget lovers)
We have actually set up three different channels for our three audiences… As a Yabukibreeze subscriber, you are welcome to see each of them.
J-11 (left) recently took an after-school photography class. He shot this great spring photo (right) in the courtyard at his school. Jon would appreciate prayer as he prepares to go on a missions trip to Amarillo this summer where he and other 6th graders from our church will be leading a Vacation Bible School for inner-city kids.
It is always a joy when students share their culture with us. Recently Giacomo from Italy assembled a cooking team from Taiwan and Korea and worked hard for hours preparing gnocci (NYOH-kee) for one of our Friday night meetings. I believe they used about 10 lbs. of potatoes!
In February C-5 celebrated her 5th birthday in the gym at Fielder Road Baptist Church. Here she is pictured with one of her good friends AXXXX. (C-5 is on the left.) We just signed C-5 up for kindergarten this fall. Please pray for her as she gets ready for that big transition.
