Call Me Rev. Roy

Okay… this is not a real picture of me, but I thought it would catch your attention. February 4 was a very special day in the life of our family. Roy was ordained into the ministry by Fielder Road Baptist Church at the 11 AM service. Theologically, ordination is the recognition by the church of particular people within the church as chosen by God to be leaders in His church. This is a very special honor for us.

The ceremony before the chuch was very holy and special as the people in the church were asked to say an amen if they agreed with the findings of the committee who chose me and Dr. John Taylor to be ordained. They did agree and the elders and pastors came forward and laid hands over us to pray. It was a special time. We have a special party afterward (right before the Super Bowl) with some friends to share the moment.

Many have asked that now that we are ordained, will we be leaving ISI to pastor a church. We do not feel that calling at this time. God directs our paths, but we intend to remain in the DFW area doing what we are already doing. Praise the Lord for His work in all this.

Cricket Used to Touch Indians at UTA

Okay it isn’t the bug… it’s the game! In March ISI at UTA partnered with several ministries to host students at the UTA Lutheran ministry center to watch the 2007 ICC World Cup of Cricket

Check out our website, www.utacricket.com for more info

Some interesting facts about Cricket and this outreach…
  • Cricket is one of the most popular sport in many English speaking nations, most notably: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc.
  • We often see students playing in the parking lots of UTA during the weekends because of their love for it.
  • The World Cup, the premier event in Cricket is being played in March and April
  • It is on pay per view on Dish network.
  • We felt that offering to televise it on a big screen in a large room would attract students and would allow american volunteers with a passion for Indians, Pakistanis’ etc. a chance to learn about the Indian pastime directly from Indians.
  • Indians have the largest population among international students at UTA but are not very well reached.
  • What a way to build bridges for the gospel.
  • We are working with at least 5 other ministries to make this happen.
  • Unfortunately India and Pakistan were knocked out very early in the tournament.
  • Pray also for the other days days and enough volunteers as it is a 2 month process with multiple games every week (I thought NCAA Basketball march madness was bad..) We hope to televise multiple games… hopefully building stronger relationships that way and offering more opportunity to share Christ’s love.

Equipping Student Leaders

“I learned something new about studying the Bible more deeply today…”  So were the comments of international students to attended DFW ISI’s annual all day Spring Student Leadership Training Seminar. Part of ISI DFW’s commitment to raising up students who can make a difference as Christian leaders in their own countries, this years Student Leadership Training seminar focused on Bible Study Methods and Hermeneutics.

Dallas Seminary graduate Roy Yabuki shared “everything he learned” from people such as Howard Hendricks and others so that student can go deeper in their study of the Bible. Observation, interpretation, correlation, verification, application became the mantra of the five students and two staff from five countries and three campuses who studied “practice” passages from Ephesians, Matthew, Genesis, etc.By the end of the day, minds felt stretched and lives were challenged.

This seminar is part of ISI DFW’s system for developing student leaders. The Spring seminar, which focuses on technical/biblical/theological growth, combined with the students leading the spring break retreat and the fall, practically oriented training seminar in addition to students direct involvement in leadership and mentoring from staff on campus forms the means by which of ISI DFW develops student leadership.
